For a long time, the darkest lipstick I was prepared to wear was a true red, or an orange based red (as seen here). In the last couple of years, the red wine lip trend made a resurgence and every brand was releasing deep red shades that were too tempting not to try.
As the colour became popularised, more affordable brands began releasing similar shades. This is always a great opportunity when this occurs to test out shades that you may not think will suit your complexion/comfort zone.
Rimmel is one of my absolute favourite drugstore brands. In particular, it’s lipstick line. Well, even more specifically the Kate Moss for Rimmel line. I own almost every shade because the formula is so rich, creamy and opaque. The longevity is comparable to any other high end brand.
This deep burgundy shade (#107) has had many wears over time, and it is still one of my go-to shades when I am feeling like something a little more moody than a bright red lip. Rather than standing out more than a traditional red lip, I think the deeper reds are more subtle and complimentary.
While I love experimenting with the latest trends and adapting to the seasonal makeup changes, I still enjoy mixing things up and wearing certain colours throughout the year. This shade is one that compliments a muted outfit, or complimentary deep red tones all year round.
